I made a series of recordings of urban sounds from my open living room window between late july and early september 2014. These recordings were done at various times of the day. I am using these as quiet background ambiance on a short play due to be performed in the near future. Recorded with a roland r26.

I made this one a morning while having a cup of strong java. It's done in garageband for a thing called victors crypt. Made a drumbeat with open hi-hat. After 4 rounds the hi-hat closes and a cowbell comes in. Did a bassline to go with the beat. Then i added instruments on top of that. Starts out pretty mellow in minor, dark. Then builds up with the bass, and after that a loud synthesizer and back to a more mellow part. I think it's a bit spacey/sci-fi. That's why i named it "exit planet terror". This is a recording i made on sunday november 4th 2012 of the gentle, droning sounds of insects that were singing in a marshy area near the shore of a small lake. This is a very typical ambiance of autumn in the southern portion of illinois. If you listen carefully, you'll hear another very typical fall sound, the cry of blue jays in the heavy woods which surround this lake. One of my favorite sound-scapes. I made this with my rugged and dependable handy zoom h4n recorder, using its built-in microphones. I literaly had it sitting on a small log only about 15 feet from the water's edge. Because the insects were not very loud, i did have to crank up my record volume to 86 on the scale of 100; this means you will hear a little bit of slight wind rumble, but all-in-all i think the recording paints a good picture of the early autumn landscape and everything slows down and winds down for the bitter winter ahead. This is a kind of dull, soft laser bolt or gun blast. Or perhaps just some sort of impact sound. I thought it was interesting, because what it really is made up of is the sound of me shuffling my cell phone around for a second. How it ended up sounding like this i don't know. But perhaps someone has an application for the use of this sound. Enjoy.

Part of "semiloopdrumsamples" package, please dl the whole package. . With 'semilooped' i mean that only the ride and hihat are longer loops and the kick and snare is separate for better flexibility. I only made basic patterns tho as this package is mostly meant for creating custom playalong/click tracks. No eq's, i'll let the user do that. . Again for flexibility. All samples are stereo(48khz24bitflac), since the sound of the kick naturally leaks in the overheads and the overheads are a big part of the snare sound.

This is a recording of the doppler heart monitor that doctors use to check out baby's heart during pregnancy checkups. This was was made on february 28, 2007 at sutter in berkeley, ca by plugging my marantz recorder into the doppler instrument. There is a bunch more that is my wife's and the baby's intermingled (with the recorder plugged in we had no way to monitor), but this is the section that has the fetus isolated. If anyone is interested in the whole thing, let me know and i'll put it up.

It's a recording of a bicycle trip. A rather quick one. Gaining speed, bicycle wheels, chains, pedals, my breathing and cars passigng by are all audible. Some woman says "dzień dobry" in the background. The wind blows int the mics a bit. Recorded with a zoom h2, originally 96khz/24-bit wav, edited and normalized with audacity. I made this while hunting some thunder strikes (my bike'n'thunder series).

This is a recording of children playing in the large playground at the luxembourg gardens in paris, france. The recording was made from the east side of the playground, next to an attraction that allows kids to hang from a sort of harness and slide down a rail. The metallic clink you hear periodically is the sound of the runners on this gadget banging into each other as kids jump off of them. Recorded with a zoom h4n at 96 khz / 24 bits in stereo with built-in mics.

This is a recording made just outside my window. A helicopter flew over just a minute later, twice! i used a cheap large diaphragm condensor mic, with a plastic bendable tube around it, pointing just outside of my window. This created a cool midrangy-resonant-combfilter kind of sound. Gear used: cheap ldc -> m-audio dmp3 -> terratec ewx2496. This is for the earthfirewindwater contest. The apollonia is a mechanized organ and music machine. It was built in 1926 and resides in the musical instrument museum (phoeniz, arizona). It takes up the space of an entire wall. Tech notes: this is a stereo recording made with a sony pcm-d50 (onboard mics, close xy pattern). I failed to notice that the low-cut filter was engaged on the recorder, so the full bass range of the instrument was not properly captured. You'll need to hear it for yourself in person!.

This is a recording i made using my tascam dr-40 field recorder. Used the xy pattern, no post-processing, just some edits to cut off unwanted noise, wind puffs and stuff. It was recorded in santo andre, state of sao paulo, brazil. This sample has street sounds, with rain, people chatting (in portuguese), bird sounds, cars, bikes and airplane sounds.

I needed a good indoor fish tank for an office scene i was working on, and made one out of these sounds. You can hear the bubbles protruding from the tubes of the tank and the hum of the pump. From nasa - "this recording was made by the supercam instrument on nasa’s perseverance mars rover on feb. 19, 2021, just about 18 hours after landing on the mission’s first sol or martian day. The rover’s mast, holding the microphone, was still stowed on perseverance’s deck, and so the sound is muffled, a little like the sound one hears listening to a seashell or having a hand cupped over the ear. Just a little wind can be heard. ".

This sound was made purely with audacity and my laptop microphone. I basically moaned into my microphone then used paulstretch with certain settings then slowed down the speed. It sounds like something adjusting or breaking far away. Feel free to use without credit.
